About me - Clinical Training and Experience
I hold a WPF Therapy Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling which is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I trained on a postgraduate course as a psychodynamic counsellor/psychotherapist with WPF Therapy, which is recognised as one of the leading psychodynamic and psychoanalytic training bodies in the UK and has maintained a reputation for both clinical and academic excellence for over 40 years. I have undertaken further training in Couple Counselling and in addition to private practice, I have worked in the voluntary sector with couples or individuals who are experiencing relationship difficulties. I have worked as an honorary counsellor for WPF Therapy at London Bridge. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My personal approach - Psychodynamic Counselling
Counselling or psychotherapy can he helpful in developing a deeper understanding of ourselves and our relationships with others. This new awareness and understanding opens up the possibility for change.
The psychodynamic approach which forms the theoretical basis of my work is built upon the idea that thoughts and feelings which influence our current relationships are based upon past relationships, most significantly within our early family. Patterns of relating to others set up in the past, and of which we are often unaware, can sometimes be unhelpful and prevent us from having the satisfactory relationships we desire. Also, how we feel about ourselves, for example if we are very self-critical, is rooted in the past and can affect our self-esteem and ability to fulfil our true potential. Fears, sometimes exaggerated, can distort how we see the world and limit our enjoyment of it.
How we relate to our therapist in the consulting room is used as a basis for greater understanding of these patterns of relating, and of the deep-seated thoughts and feelings about ourselves which influence our lives.
Our therapeutic work together is strictly confidential and I aim to provide a non-judgemental, safe environment in which you can feel heard, accepted and understood. In this way, I can help you to have the freedom to gradually explore and understand your inner world, loosen the grip of the past and develop new ways of being and relating.
